Managing Task Units DCS AOC Tools
Last updated: Jul 25, 2025
This section will guide you through the steps to manage Task Units within the ATO system, primarily via the "Units" section of the Mission Planner.
How to Use Task Units
Managing Task Units primarily takes place in the "Units" section of the ATO page.
Adding New Task Units
- Navigate to the "Units" section (likely via a tab on the ATO page).
- In the "Add new units" section, fill in the following fields:
- Unit designator: Enter a descriptive name for the unit (e.g., "VFA-103", "31st Fighter Wing").
- ICAO code or location name: Enter the ICAO code of the reference airbase (e.g., "LIRF") or a location name. The system will attempt to associate this ICAO with an existing airbase in the database.
- Comments: Add any notes or details about the unit.
- Click "Add unit" to save.
Modifying Existing Task Units
In the "Units" table, find the Task Unit you wish to modify.
- Click the "Edit" button (usually a pencil icon) in the Task Unit's row. An editor will open where you can modify the designator, ICAO code/location, and comments.
- Click "Save" to apply changes.
Deleting Task Units
In the "Units" table, find the Task Unit you wish to delete.
Click the "Delete" button (usually a trash can icon) in the Task Unit's row. You will be prompted for confirmation before deletion. Keep in mind that deleting a Task Unit may affect missions assigned to it and linked Unit Remarks.
Assigning Missions to Task Units
Mission assignment occurs in the "Missions" section of the ATO page.
- In the missions table, for each mission row, you will find a "Unit" column with a dropdown menu.
- Select the desired Task Unit from the dropdown menu.
- The system will automatically save the assignment.
Managing Task Unit Remarks
Unit Remarks are specific notes that can be associated with a Task Unit and then linked to individual missions.
- Navigate to the "Remarks" section of the ATO page.
- Adding New Remarks:
- Select the "Unit designator" to which you want to associate the remark.
- Choose a "Remarks identifier" (usually a letter, e.g., 'A', 'B').
- Enter the "Remarks text" (the content of the note).
- Click "Add remarks."
- Assigning Remarks to Missions:
- In the "Remarks" table, for each remark, you will find an "Assign" button.
- Click "Assign" to open a popup with a list of missions assigned to that Task Unit.
- Select the checkboxes for the missions to which you want to assign that specific remark.
- Click "Save" in the popup.
- Deleting Remarks:
- In the "Remarks" table, click the trash can icon next to the remark you want to delete.
Importing Task Units and Remarks
The system allows you to import Task Units and their Remarks from other existing projects, useful for recurring configurations.
- In the "Units" or "Remarks" section, click the "Import Units" or "Import Unit Remarks" button.
- A popup will open where you can select the project to import from.
- You will have options to include or exclude missions and remarks during the import.
- Warning: Importing will delete existing Task Units (and/or Remarks) in the current project before importing from the selected project. Remarks will be imported but not automatically reassigned to missions; you will need to reassign them manually if necessary.
