Mandatory Operations for a New Project
To activate a project and unlock all functionalities, three sequential steps are required.
1. Upload/Update Mission File (.miz)
The .miz file is the operational base of the project. An initial file is uploaded upon project creation but you can upload a new file in the Project Dashboard.
2. Setting the Air Tasking Order (ATO) Header
The ATO Header defines the general and administrative parameters of the operation, and is a prerequisite for advanced sections. The ATO Header establishes the ATO's operational status, enabling the comprehensive input of mission details and all subsequent critical data. Consequently, configuring the ATO Header is the foundational first step; without it, the ATO cannot be processed and finalized.
3. Creating and Assigning Missions to Task Units
Organizing missions into Task Units is crucial for managing the order of battle and for flight calculations. At this moment, only missions that are part of a Task Unit and have the status "Tasked" in the Missions page are included in the ATO.
Optional Operations (Advanced Configurations)
After the mandatory steps, you can enhance planning with the following configurations:
- Airspace Control Order (ACO): Create and manage airspace control measures (restricted areas, corridors).
- Special Instructions (SPINS): Define special operational instructions for the mission/operation.
- Comm Plan: Configure radio communication plans (frequencies, callsigns) and manage Challenge and Reply tables.
- Personnel Management: Assign personnel to specific roles (missions, ATC, AWACS).
- Reset Transponders and Laser Codes: Generate new IFF (transponder) and laser codes for the coalition. Good operational security practice.
- Joint Integrated Prioritized Target List (JIPTL): Link a prioritized target list to the project for the selected coalition.
By following these steps, you will effectively configure your project in AOC Tools, ensuring a solid foundation for all your air operations in DCS World.
