Tools General Information Introduction
Last updated: May 16, 2025

Combined Ops provides groups and pilots with three tools perfectly integrated with each other. You can choose to use only one or two of these tools, but it is recommended to use them all together to get the best result.

To use the tools together, the flow should be as follows.

  1. Group commanders or AOC members (mission editors) create a new project on AOC Tools, upload the miz file and prepare the desired documentation.
  2. When everything is ready, the operation can be shared on Combined Ops and set as visible in the Mission Planner.
  3. Depending on how the operation visibility is set up, Combined Ops users can send the request to participate in the operation. Members of the hosting group will be automatically able to see all the information about the operation without registering to it.
  4. All the users registered to the operation can see all the information and documentation in the Mission Planner.

In summary, we can say that AOC Tools is a set of tools that allow group commanders to provide pilots with the full documentation about the operation and the Mission Planner is the tool that pilots use to see this documentation.

The tools will be briefly described below but all the functions will be described in detail in the dedicated sections.

AOC Tools: Mission file upload and documentation editing

AOC Tools is available for all group members that have been added to their group Air Operations Center (AOC). It allows to create a project by uploading the DCS World mission file (.miz) and create the whole documentation that will be available on the Mission Planner for all the group members or users registered to the operation.

The documentation that can be created through AOC Tools includes:

  • Full Air Tasking Order (ATO) with all information for each unit and mission (unit data, mission data, aircraft data, targets data, mission location, mission control agencies and radio frequencies, unit remarks etc.)
  • Full Airspace Control Order (ACO) with all the Airspace Control Measures (ACM) and their data defined through the ACO feature
  • Communications Plan, including C2/Airspace Control Agencies/ATC radio frequencies, intraflight frequencies, authentication table and RAMROD word
  • Special Instructions (SPINS) that can be fully defined through the dedicated editor

Everything created in AOC Tools can be automatically shared with all the group members through Combined Ops and Mission Planner.

Combined Ops Main Website

Even if many features in the website can be used by single users too, everything is designed so you can get the best benefits as part of a group. The first thing to do, after the account registration, is to create a group. Each group can have an unlimited number of members that can be assigned in one or more of the available roles.

Once the group has been created and all members correctly joined it and their requests have been accepted, there are mainly two ways to use Combined Ops.

The first way is to use the main site only. Groups can publish their operations with all the required information or link the page containing the documentation, ask people to register to the operation and handle everything else externally.

The second way is linking the operation posted on Combined Ops main site to the AOC Tools project and set the project visible on the Mission Planner. This way the operation posted on the site is still used to allow people to register to the it, but all the users registered to the operation will have the full documentation on their Mission Planner.

Also, on the Combined Ops user control panel the group admins can accept or refuse requests to join the group and appoint members of the group AOC and Editors.

Mission Planner

The Mission Planner is the tool fully dedicated to the participants in the operation. As said above all the information and the whole documentation created through AOC Tools will be available here. Participants can download the full pdf and see a lot of these information on their Mission Planner including a map showing ACO, all units present in the theatre of operations, threat circles, NAVAIDS, airbases information, flight plans, unit remarks and more. Also several tools are available, like a CMDS editor, Takeoff and Landing Data calculator and Mission Data Card ready to print in A4 and A5 formats.

Combined Ops Airspace

Combined Ops Airspace delivers seamless integration with essential AOC tools, Mission Planner, and crucial operational documents like ATO, ACO, and SPINS, providing a centralized hub for airspace management.

This advanced client streamlines tactical operations, enhances real-time coordination, and significantly improves the efficiency of complex combined missions.

A dedicated tool is fundamental for effectively fulfilling the roles of both ATC and AWACS/GCI. Combined Ops Airspace empowers operators with the precise control and comprehensive situational awareness necessary to excel in demanding operational scenarios, ensuring mission success and maximizing air asset effectiveness.
