Creating a New Project in DCS AOC Tools
A project is the main workspace used by DCS AOC Tools to organize the information and documentation associated with a DCS World mission. A project is created from a DCS World .miz mission file and contains the mission data that can be extracted and subsequently completed or organized within DCS AOC Tools.
Projects are associated with a Combined Ops group, allowing the group's mission planners and authorized members to work with the same operational information.
Creating a New Project
To create a new project, open the Projects section of DCS AOC Tools and select the option to create a new project.
The project creation process requires the information needed to identify the project and its associated DCS World mission.
- Open the Projects section: Access the project management area of DCS AOC Tools.
- Create a new project: Select the option to create a new project.
- Enter the project information: Provide the required project information, including the project name and the associated group when applicable.
- Upload the DCS World mission: Upload the corresponding DCS World
.mizfile. This file is the primary source used by DCS AOC Tools to extract mission information. - Confirm the project: Submit the project creation form. DCS AOC Tools will process the mission file and create the project using the information available in the
.mizfile.
Importing Mission Data from the .miz File
When a new project is created, DCS AOC Tools reads the uploaded DCS World .miz file and extracts the mission information supported by the system.
This information can include mission groups, aircraft, callsigns, waypoints, timings, targets, frequencies and other data used by the operational planning sections.
The amount of information available to DCS AOC Tools depends on how the mission was configured in the DCS World Mission Editor. Mission designers should therefore follow the dedicated Mission Editor preparation guides to ensure that as much relevant information as possible can be extracted from the mission.
Opening an Existing Project
Existing projects can be accessed from the Projects section of DCS AOC Tools.
The project dashboard provides access to the projects available to the user and allows them to be organized and located according to the available project management options.
- Open the Projects section: Navigate to the project dashboard.
- Find the project: Browse or filter the available projects to locate the required mission.
- Open the project: Select the project to access its operational planning sections.
- Select the appropriate coalition: Where applicable, select the coalition required for the current planning activity.
Project Workspace
Once a project has been opened, DCS AOC Tools provides access to the different sections used to plan and document the mission.
Depending on the project configuration and available mission data, these sections can include ATO, ACO, SPINS, Comm Plan, assignments and other operational planning features.
Information extracted from the DCS World mission can be reviewed and completed within the project before generating the corresponding operational documentation.
Projects and DCS World Mission Files
The DCS World .miz file is an important part of the DCS AOC Tools workflow. The project uses the mission file as the source for information that can be extracted automatically, while DCS AOC Tools provides additional functionality for completing and organizing the operational data.
For this reason, a project should normally be created from the mission version that will be used for the operation. If the mission is changed later in the DCS World Mission Editor, the updated mission file may contain different information and may need to be imported into the appropriate project workflow.
Projects in the Combined Ops Workflow
A DCS AOC Tools project can also be connected to other parts of the Combined Ops ecosystem. For example, a project can be associated with a Group Operation on the main Combined Ops website, providing a connection between the operational event and its mission planning data.
After the mission has been prepared in DCS AOC Tools, DCS Mission Planner can be used for individual pilot and flight preparation, while DCS Airspace provides real-time ATC, AWACS and GCI capabilities during the mission.
